Everybody is on their smart phone, no regard for the one sitting next to you on the tram.
Crime is on the rise, banks are ruining people, paedophiles rape your kids, capitalism is starving people, and the whole world is at war.
In the old days, we were younger. We are programmed for optimism and remember the good more than the bad. We also forget fast, most recent events define our views.
Media report only bad news, since good news is no news. We want to know where the dangers are in order to avoid them, so it is natural to focus on the bad news.
The facts are, crime is going down massively, people get richer overall (however, not everyone), wars are in decline.
On the subject of war, I found a great video on its decline that I will share here. It’s short, fast, a bit glossy, but puts our views in perspective.
