When do you have or earn enough to relax and enjoy rather than check every price?
I guess it depends on how wealthy you feel, and how secure you feel. Some people by most standards have enough and live in very stable, secure situations. Still they continue their student behaviour to look for the cheapest.
They alienate their peers who are more easy-going, complicate group planning on a weekend or evening.
One of my theories about why they behave stingily on occasions is that they need to ‘beat the system’, be smarter than the rest and enjoy getting the same for less. The economic principle that I describe in other posts, fine in principle. But when you enjoy less with your peers and save 10 Euros, where is the actual benefit? Assert yourself, maybe?
Or deep inside they value themselves low to just merit sub-standard fare? Are they afraid to lose? Has it become a hobby they are good at?
I never compare prices, I just go for it if I feel that the service or product I get is worth it for me (and I can afford it). Looking for cheaper to me is a waste of time, I know I have enough to overpay occasionally and I need no expensive Gucci kind of bling-bling to maintain my ‘status’.
I remain puzzled by this and have a hard time judging.
How do you feel about stinginess?
