Years ago, most of my friends ridiculed the iPhone. A dirty screen was one of the popular criticisms. No need or use for an iPhone was another.
By now most have one, some have Samsungs or Blackberries.
By now, most own BMW’s, have a Facebook account, a smartphone and wonder when to come out with their so far hidden xenophobia. The media and their own peers are turning their ways fashionable.
Only a few are resisting.
Worries about privacy have led few to use Telegram instead of Whatsapp. Whatsapp is the herds’ choice, after all. The few who changed have done so due to peer (my) pressure, not privacy concerns.
Most oppose immigration despite the evidence pointing to a severe need for it due to our demographics. Who sees this evidence?
Most of my peers don’t. They just see that immigrants are more dirty than locals, they feel threatened. Earlier, they chose poor neighbourhoods to live in and now see their prejudice confirmed. We are better than them anyway. Their exclusion from our societies is their fault.
History is no guide.
