It paints an ever more dystopian, horrible future where the UK economy would crash. It is suffering already from investments delayed due to uncertainty. Check out the ‘3 blokes in a pub’ videos on the horror of leaving without a deal.
Obviously, everyone, except for a few extremist Brexiteers, will want to avoid that future. The information out now puts a lot of pressure on everyone to come to a reasonably decent deal, something in line with the Chequers Plan. And with a view towards a Transition Period that may be more or less indefinite. Anything else puts the Northern Island border with the Republic of Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement at risk.
The outlook presented in the No-Deal-Brexit scenarios is so horrible, that they are essentially a tool to prepare Remainers, Brexiteers, the EU, the UK government and population for what I call a Brexit-In-Name-Only, a BINO.
The UK will formally leave, yet, with a deal, continue to be in the Single Market, the Customs Union and assure the Freedom of Movement in one way or another. A bespoke deal will be cut that renames all of the above instruments to implement a BINO. Saving face for all actors, avoiding mayhem to the economy and population. The deal will provide reasonable certainty for EU people in UK and UK people in the EU and assure continued frictionless trade between UK and EU as well as the UK trading under the trade agreements the EU has made with most of the world.
The fascist uprising in UK would hopefully loose steam, calm would return and we can all go back to business as usual. The recent People’s March in London with 700.00+ marchers should help.
Yet, with the UK so divided and the political class so split, there are great risks ahead.
I do hope we can pull together without compromising the pillars on which Europe is built and has been successful and peaceful for the last 70 years. The dystopian No-Deal-scenarios will help.
